Formatting your product page is easy to do and is an important touch to ensure you do everything within your control to make sure your listing stands out.
In this article, you’ll learn how to format your product description area professionally.
What Amazon Wants To See In Your Product Listing
Product titles, product descriptions, and bullets must be clearly written and should assist the customer in understanding your product.
When creating a listing, you must follow Amazon’s listing standards for any product you sell on Amazon.com.
Check out Amazon’s requirements below:
- Describe the major product features, such as size, style, and what the product can be used for
- Include accurate dimensions, care instructions, and warranty information
- Use correct grammar, punctuation, and complete sentences
- Do not include any of the following types of information:
– Seller name
– E-mail address
– Website URL
– Company-specific information
– Details about another product that you sell
– Promotional language such as “SALE” or “free shipping”
What Can You Format On Your Product Page Description?
So now we know what Amazon wants to see in your description, how do we correctly and professionally format this?
In the description area of your listing you can apply the following three things to your formatting:
- Bolding
- Bullet points
- Line breaks
With these three things implemented you can craft a pretty decent product listing 🙂
What you want to aim for here is for your product listing description to be clear and concise, you want it to be easy for people to scan through without having to read every single word.
TIP: Bullet points are fabulous for creating a clear and concise product listing description so we absolutely recommend you use them

In the example below we can see a great example of how your product listing description should look to include great formatting with the three things we discussed above; bolding, bullet points and line breaks:
What Basic HTML Code Should You Use In Your Product Listing?
To format our listing we need to add some basic HTML code to our product listing.
Don’t panic here it’s not that difficult and the more you do it the easier it will become 🙂
Firstly, we recommend putting your product description into a Word document which you can then format.
Enter the description exactly how you want it to look like, and then we’ll add to it the html formatting as follows:
How to make your text bold
<b></b>
How to add a line break
</br>
Bear in mind if you want to add a paragraph for example, or two line breaks, you will need the following code:
</br>
</br>
How to add bullet points
All you need here is a dash; – there is no special formatting required 🙂
In the example below, you will see the html formatting:
Once added into Amazon, the code looks like the screenshot as shown under ‘How To Craft Your Product Listing Description’.

Don’t Worry About Getting Your Product Description Right

Remember, practice makes perfect and the more you practice the easier it will become.
TIP: Don’t worry if your listing doesn’t look correct in Amazon, you can go back later and make the necessary changes

In this article, you’ll learn options for setting up a website for your whitelabel products using WordPress, and also an online store option with Shopify.
Amazon’s Limited Number Of Characters
Bear in mind Amazon has a limited number of characters that you can use within the description area of 2,000 characters, so when you add in your html formatting into your listing, these also count as characters.
So for example, if your text in your word document was exactly 2,000 characters, and then you add your html formatting then you may have too many characters.
If this happens just thin your description out until you have the required amount of characters.
